Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) is a small annual plant that is seen in large numbers in the hay meadows, Fields 1 and 2, throughout the Summer. You have to look deeply into the sward to see its small white flowers. When viewed in extreme close up, each flower has a yellow blotch and fine purple stripes on it's lower lip, to act as a guide for pollinators. It is semi-parasitic, it's roots drawing nutrients from neighbouring grasses and other plants such as clover and plantains.
