Bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) is a large common fern. Shoots appear in May and the plants die back in Autumn. It is poisonous to grazing animals and small mammals and is therefore undesirable here on the Wildlife Site. Fortunately, it is only present in one patch in Field 1 next to Hedge h2. Control measures will have to be considered if the Bracken spreads.
