Four species of Warbler have been recorded on the Wildlife Site: Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin), Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla), Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus) and Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita). We have difficulty in observing and identifying these little birds so they may be more common here than our Table of Bird Sightings suggests. We see them only rarely but do sometimes hear their distinctive songs, often delivered from cover in lightly wooded areas of the wildlife site, in the orchard and mature garden trees at Downlee Lodge, and also from trees near to the railway line and the public footpath at the top of Fields 1 and 2.
The video screen shot below may give some idea of how difficult it is to see a Garden Warbler even when in full view and producing its strong, almost continuous, beautiful and mellow song.
