There is a mature Small-leaved Lime tree (Tilia cordata) on the eastern boundary of Field 2, another in the field adjacent to Downlee Lodge entrance and others more recently planted in Field Corners W1 and W2. The lower branches of the Lime in the field near Downlee Lodge entrance have been grazed level by sheep. Small-leaved Lime is not closely related to the trees that produce citrus fruit. It's sweet-smelling flowers attract pollinating insects in June-July. Lime timber is a favourite for wood carving.
