There is a large Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) tree in Field Corner W4 near Bankhall Drive, where there are a number of older and taller specimens. Horse Chestnut was not a native UK tree but has become naturalised here. It has distinctive leaves and familiar large spiky-cased seeds, conkers. Its upright flower spikes that bloom in May are attractive to bees and other insects. The relatively small population and its decline Europe-wide has resulted in its classification as Vulnerable on the European Red List of Trees of conservation concern.
