There are large male and female Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) trees in Downlee lodge garden and ash trees planted in Field Corners W1 and W3 have grown well over the last twenty years. Self-seeded ash saplings appear all over the area around Downlee Lodge. The winged seeds from the female trees are eaten by birds, including bullfinch. The fungal disease Ash dieback is of great concern countrywide but it does not seem to have infected Ash trees on the Wildlife Site to date (2021). The Ash is classified as Near Threatened in the European Red List of Trees of conservation concern.
