Alder Buckthorn (Frangula alnus) is a small tree. Its flowers are attractive to bees in May-June and the berries are food source for birds such as thrushes. Several Alder Buckthorn have been planted in field corners W1 and W3 specifically to attract the brimstone butterfly, for which Alder Buckthorn is known to be a main food plant. However, to date (2021) we have no evidence of great success in attracting those butterflies to the Wildlife Site.
