Three common members of the Mint family seen on the Wildlife Site are: Selfheal (Prunella vulgaris), Common Hemp-nettle (Galeopsis tetrahit) and Hedge Woundwort (Stachys sylvatica)
Selfheal is seen occasionally all over the hayfields Fields 1, 2 and in the wildflower meadow and even in lawns at Downlee Lodge. It is usually shorter than many of the surrounding plants in the hay meadows. Its violet flowers are seen from June to October.
Common Hemp-nettle and Hedge Woundwort are tall and hairy plants, common in the UK but rarely seen on the Wildlife Site. The pale flowers of Common Hemp-nettle may be seen under hedgerow h2 from July to September and the Purple flowers of Hedge Woundwort, near hedgerow h3, from June to September.
