Family groups of Long-tailed Tit (Aegithalos caudatus) are sometimes seen moving around hedgerows and wooded areas of the Wildlife Site and their nests have been found in bramble patches at Downlee Lodge. These very active and engaging little birds are less nervous than expected and sometimes feed at the birdfeeders in the garden at Downlee Lodge. Other common tits, Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus), Great Tit (Parus major) and Coal Tit (Periparus ater) are present in the garden and in the Wildlife Site hedgerows and field corners, throughout the year.
