Redstart

The Common Redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus) is not common in the UK. This summer visitor from Africa is on the Amber List of Birds of Conservation Concern. Redstarts are sometimes heard singing from cover on the Wildlife Site and from trees near the railway line and public footpath at the top of Fields 1 and 2. We have only once clearly seen a Redstart on the Wildlife Site. That was a colourful male, one of a small group feeding and calling in the hedge h3 between those two hayfields in June 2021.
