Dunnock (Prunella modularis), sometimes called hedge sparrows, are ever-present scuttling around feeding under the hedgerows in the garden at Downlee Lodge and in other hedgerows around the site. They breed here. Although these little grey-brown birds are still common, their population has declined and they are on the Amber List of birds of Conservation Concern and on the BAP list.
