Ribwort Plantain (Plantago lanceolata) is abundant in the Wildlife Site hay meadows (Field 1 and Field 2) and in Downlee Lodge Wildflower Meadow. It's flowers and ribbed leaves can be seen from April- September, becoming obvious here before most other wildflowers and grasses. Ribwort Plantain is regarded by some as a weed but it has medicinal properties and is good food for sheep and for seed eating birds in winter.
