The Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) is a common garden butterfly that is often seen from May to October in the orchard, garden and area around Downlee Lodge and in the Wildllife Site, Field Corners W1 and W3. One Red Admiral, presumably a resident, is shown in a photograph below, feeding in late February in the earliest flowering tree in our orchard.
