The sheep and lambs now seen on the Wildlife Site are of mixed commercial breeds. They are lambed and kept inside until the weather is suitable for grazing outside in late spring. Some of the ewes and lambs then graze Fields 1 and 2 and fields adjacent to Bankhall Drive. They are excluded from the hay meadows Fields1 and 2 from May to July to allow the wild flowers and grasses to grow and seed. Until September 2020 the sheep seen here included a small flock of pedigree Wensleydales, a rare breed valued for its wool and in the past for its meat and for providing large rams that were crossbred with hill ewes to produce productive Masham ewes.
